Description

This session will explore how CAL FIRE leverages a comprehensive suite of fire intelligence tools to support all phases of wildfire management — from early detection and wildfire threat forecasting to real-time situational awareness and post-incident damage assessment. Chief SeLegue will provide an operational overview of the Wildfire Forecast and Threat Intelligence Integration Center (WFTIIC), CAL FIRE’s remote sensing program, the use of AI tools like Technosylva and FireSat, and deployment of mobile applications like Tactical Analyst for how the agency prepares and coordinates resources. Attendees will gain insight into how these platforms enhance firefighter safety, support decision-making, and enable rapid response during complex incidents. Phillip SeLegue serves as the staff chief of CAL FIRE’s Intelligence (Intel) Program, where he oversees statewide fire intelligence operations, including Predictive Services, the Wildfire Forecast and Threat Intelligence Integration Center (WFTIIC), the Remote Sensing Program, and fire-related technology partnerships. SeLegue has been instrumental in driving CAL FIRE’s data-informed decision-making, including development and implementation of key systems like Technosylva suite of software, Report On Conditions application, and statewide wildfire camera integration through the ALERTCALIFORNIA network. He has over 26 years of service with CAL FIRE and, as a subject matter expert, he has collaborated with federal agencies, academia, and private industry to enhance wildfire situational awareness, modeling, and response. SeLegue represents CAL FIRE on several national committees and working groups, including FIRE-RES and the National Predictive Services Oversite Group, and has advised the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. His leadership ensures CAL FIRE remains at the forefront of wildfire intelligence, integrating cutting-edge technology, fostering interagency partnerships, and supporting policy development to better protect California’s communities and natural resources.
