Michael Calabro serves as the Battalion Chief of Health and Safety for the Charleston Fire Department, bringing 17 years of dedicated service to firefighter wellness, operational readiness, and organizational leadership. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and is widely recognized for developing and advancing progressive health and safety initiatives within the fire service.
Chief Calabro was honored as the Charleston Fire Department 2024 Chief Officer of the Year and currently serves as the Safety Officer Subcommittee Chairman for the Charleston County Chiefs Association, where he helps shape regional standards and best practices. In addition to his operational leadership, he serves as the advising chief officer for the department’s Peer Fitness Team and is the Peer Support Team Commander, reinforcing his commitment to both the physical and behavioral health of firefighters.
A respected leader, mentor, and advocate, Chief Calabro continues to drive a culture of safety, resilience, and excellence throughout the fire service.
