Dr. Joel M. Billings is interested in bringing together research and practice to influence evidence-based decision-making. His current research focuses on firefighter sleep quality, shift schedules, and fire station alerting systems. His goal is to ultimately improve health, safety, and performance of members in the fire and emergency services profession. Billings' professional background includes being a volunteer firefighter and EMT-Basic in Michigan and he brings science to the fire station as a member of The Science Alliance. He is also a council member for the Healthy Work Design & Well-Being cross-sector program at NIOSH/CDC.
